If you’re found at-fault, or liable, in a motor-vehicle accident, you’re responsible - this is your liability - for the cost of the damage you’ve caused, including:
- damage to personal property
- physical injury or death to another person
- a victim’s lost or potential income
An Auto Pak protects you when the $200,000 of liability coverage that’s part of your basic plate insurance isn’t enough - like if you’re at risk of being sued after a serious collision causing a lot of property damage or severely injuring someone resulting in years of treatment. Something that could become a reality if you frequently travel outside Saskatchewan, particularly in the U.S. Learn more from these Learning from Losses real-life examples.
Third-party liability coverage
If you’re found at-fault you may find yourself liable for an amount over $200,000. With Auto Pak you’re automatically protected from financial loss up to $1 million - whether it's for injury payments or property damage when you're being sued.
Think you might need more protection? For a small cost, you can increase your liability coverage to $2 million, $3 million, $4 million or even $5 million. Ask your SGI CANADA insurance broker for advice in choosing the right amount of protection.
Family security coverage
When you purchase an Auto Pak, you automatically get family security coverage.
It is not liability coverage. It is extra coverage that protects you when the at-fault driver doesn’t have enough of liability coverage.
Family security covers your expenses if you, or an eligible family member, are injured in an automobile accident caused by an uninsured or underinsured driver, who does not carry enough of their own liability insurance to cover the full amount of your eligible claim. This is particularly important when driving in the U.S. where the minimum amount of insurance drivers must have is as low as $25,000 in some states.
Family security coverage matches your liability amount up to $2 million.
