Climate change research

We invest in the University of Saskatchewan Centre for Hydrology research to gain valuable new insight into climate change on the Prairies.

Our proactive funding will allow the university to find better techniques to anticipate the types of weather events that will occur on the Prairies in the future, while developing tools to better understand extreme weather patterns. This understanding will provide practical tools to communities across the Prairies to help minimize the damage caused by severe storms.

The more severe weather situations we face on the Prairies, the more claims SGI CANADA will receive resulting in larger costs to the company, which in turn will result in rising insurance premiums for the customer.

In recent years, climate change has become 1 of the most serious issues affecting our planet today. As the earth’s temperature rises, extreme weather events are becoming more frequent. Events like Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the rapid melting of the polar ice caps and serious flooding in the spring are stark reminders that everyone needs to start paying very close attention to the Earth’s climate.
